Is Azure DevOps a project management tool?

Partly. Azure DevOps is a broader platform that bundles several services, including Azure Boards for backlogs, sprints, and work item tracking, plus repositories, pipelines, and test management. Azure Boards covers the project management side, while the rest supports building and delivering software. Check Microsoft's current documentation for the exact feature set.

It has a learning curve, but it is manageable when approached in stages. The hard part is usually cultural change and connecting tools, not any single technology. Teams that start with one pipeline and grow gradually tend to find it easier.

What are the top 10 DevOps projects?

Common hands-on DevOps projects include: a CI/CD pipeline for a web application, containerizing an app with Docker, deploying to Kubernetes, provisioning infrastructure with Terraform, configuration management with Ansible, monitoring with Prometheus and Grafana, centralized logging, a GitOps workflow, blue-green or canary deployments, and a DevSecOps pipeline with automated security scans.

What are the 7 pillars of DevOps?

There is no single official list, and sources vary. A commonly cited version includes collaboration, automation, continuous integration, continuous delivery, continuous testing, continuous monitoring, and continuous feedback. Some teams use the CALMS framework instead: culture, automation, lean, measurement, and sharing.

What does a DevOps project manager do?

They align priorities across teams, track delivery progress, manage dependencies and risks, coordinate releases, and report on delivery health, acting as a facilitator rather than a phase-gate enforcer.

Is DevOps project management the same as Agile?

No. Agile focuses on how teams plan and iterate on work. DevOps project management extends that thinking through deployment and operations, covering the full path to production.

Which metrics should I track?

Many teams start with the DORA metrics: deployment frequency, lead time for changes, change failure rate, and time to restore service. Use them to spot bottlenecks, not to rank individuals.
