What exactly is Claude Duet?

Claude Duet is Anthropic's AI assistant for managing everyday work. It can review connected apps, prepare briefings, organize priorities, and handle assigned tasks in the background. Anthropic introduced it in October 2026 as a research preview.

Can Claude Duet work without being told every step?

Yes, within limits. You can give it a task and let it use available connections to complete the work. It also checks for updates periodically. However, consequential actions such as sending messages or making payments require your approval.

How is Claude Duet different from other AI agents?

Its main distinction is how Anthropic brings ongoing context, connected apps, and background execution together in one personal assistant. Other AI agents already offer some of these capabilities, so the underlying technology isn't entirely new.

Can small businesses use Claude Duet?

Small business owners could use it for preparing meetings, reviewing invoices, organizing communication, and handling routine administrative work. However, because it's still in research preview, important decisions and actions should be carefully reviewed.

Do businesses still need custom AI agents?

Sometimes. Claude Duet may be sufficient for tasks involving supported applications. Companies using proprietary software, specialized approval processes, or industry-specific workflows may benefit from agents developed specifically for their requirements.

Can developers build agents with capabilities similar to Claude Duet?

Yes. Developers can combine language models, relevant memory, application integrations, task orchestration, and approval mechanisms. The difficult part is ensuring these components work reliably together when handling real business processes.

Is Claude Duet available to everyone?

No. Anthropic initially introduced Claude Duet through a research-preview waitlist for eligible Pro and Max subscribers in the United States. Its background work also shares the user's existing Claude usage allowance. Availability may expand as the preview develops.
