The Energy Year, earlier known as The Oil & Gas Year (TOGY), is a French company that publishes books, maps and news articles related to the oil and gas industry. They collect information for the same by sending a team of researchers to Asia, America, Africa and other Middle East regions and conducting interviews there. It aims to deliver strategic communication, business intelligence and corporate networking solutions to the energy industry around the world. The Energy Year is the operator of TOGYiN, the global business intelligence portal for global energy industries. This portal supplies on-field research and face-to-face interviews to the oil and gas companies and their partners. It covers more than 30 oil & gas industry markets and has published industry oriented maps and books on oil & gas construction, off-shore operations and off-shore suppliers around the world. For the contributors and VIP readers of TOGY community, it has launched a business intelligence platform to provide them a better content and informative environment.
The client already had a website with static content and very few interactive modules and widgets, but wanted to design a better UI for the website and restructure its different modules. They needed customized widgets where they can add required links from the system backend. For better user experience, they required a feature where they can add tags to their news articles and other posts which can provide appropriate search results to the user and category wise filter option where the user can filter the content and sync the search results with it. There was a requirement of a section where most popular news articles and posts can be displayed to the users on the news and features page of the website. Various interactive widgets were required for the market page wherein users can either view generalized information or regional information by selecting an appropriate region.
The Energy Year website was restructured with different interactive widgets, news and articles, calendar and upcoming events. The landing page contains an auto updating widget which shows a graphical representation of the statistics of commodities, stocks, indices and forex. For the markets page, country specific content like news, facts & figures, maps and books published of countries where they have a presence is displayed. The Upcoming Events section contains two options where users can add the event date to their calendar and can visit their website. Users can filter the results by the type of content, regions, countries and the search option allows them to search within those filtered results. The news and features pages were restructured and a section of the most popular articles was added to both the pages. Tags can be added to any news article or any other post when it is published from the backend of the system. These tags are helpful when a user searches for any keyword and the algorithm fetches the relevant content from the whole website based on the searched keyword and displays the results.
